Rhinoplasty is surgery to repair or reshape the nose.
The purpose of any facial surgery is to obtain a greater facial harmony or to improve the sequelae produced by aging and / or weight loss, as this affects the emotional stability of the patient and improves their quality of life.
It usually takes between 1 and 2 hours, but may take longer. The surgeries are usually done under local anesthesia and made by making small incisions depending on the case. In some cases, the incision is made from the outside, around the base of the nose. A splint (metal or plastic) can be placed outside the nose, in case of rhinoplasty, which will help to preserve the new shape of the bone when the surgery is finished. Soft plastic splints or nasal plugs can also be placed in the nasal passages, which helps to keep the dividing wall between the airways (septum) stable.
